Samson’s Salon & Spa in Barrie, Ontario was founded in 1988 by Doug Samson. We opened a second salon at Georgian Mall in 1990, and have only continued to grow and love our craft since then.
We’re not just a beauty business, we’re a salon with a conscience eager to give back to both our local community and the beauty industry we’re passionate about. Samson’s established the Excellence Cup Hairstyling Competition, the first of its kind north of Toronto, and donated all proceeds to the Women and Children’s Crisis Centre. We later sold this event to an international beauty care company who re-branded it “Hairapalooza.” Now, you can find Hairapalooza in major cities across Canada.
These days, we continue to uphold our high standard of excellence. We encourage our staff to always keep learning and to prioritize creating an excellent customer experience. We love to build lasting relationships with our clients, and are proud to be named a “favourite salon” by many sources.
Samson’s Salon & Spa is run by husband-and-wife team Doug and Valerie Samson. They have been recognized widely for their contributions to the community and their industry. Here is a timeline of some of their accomplishments:

Doug is an energetic, passionate hairstylist who believes in his staff, enjoys his clients and knows that attention to detail, being a great listener, and having fun at work create the perfect experience and ultimate results!
VALERIE SAMSON
Business Manager, Owner
In addition to being Doug’s business partner (and spouse since 1985), Valerie is a successful business woman in her own right. Educated in business management and accounting, she handles all financial and administrative operations. “We run an integrity-based business. Our staff have input in many operational decisions and…why not? We are a team.
LISA
Senior Stylist
Lisa is a Master Stylist working at Samson's Salon for over 20 years. She is well educated in colour, current haircuts and trends. She specializes in highlights and has a love for bridal and special occasion updos and is energetic and passionate about her work. Lisa loves the relationships that she has built with her loyal clientele and looks forward to establishing new relationships as well! If you are looking for a stylist with whom you can communicate and enjoy the full salon experience with, Lisa is the PERFECT stylist for you!
VANESSA
Certified Paramedical Esthetician
Vanessa has been a Certified Esthetician since 2007 and is a graduate of the Rinaldi College of Aesthetics. She continued her training at the Skincare Academy in Richmond Hill, completing her microdermabrasion, electro coagulation, non-surgical face-lifting, laser hair removal and photo facial certifications. Vanessa is also certified in sanitation and sterilization, as well as first aid and CPR.
CHELSEY KERR
Stylist
Chelsey joined our team at Samsons 6 years ago and has over 9 years of colouring and styling experience. Chelsey specializes in unique highlighting techniques, such as bayalage and 'baby lights' and is trained and certified in multiple colour systems. Chelsey competed in the 2012 Hairapalooza competition and has a special love for bridal and Formal Upstyling with many classes under her belt.
